“Nothing Compares 2 U” is a song written by the American singer Prince, for his musical project The Family, and included in his first studio album. In its original version, it relates the nostalgic feelings of an abandoned lover. In 1989, Sinéad O’Connor re-recorded the song with new instrumental arrangements and included it on her second album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got. In her interpretation, O’Connor expresses the devastation that the loss of her mother meant (for her). It was released as the second single and achieved international success. It was produced by O’Connor and Nellee Hooper and its iconic music video was directed by John Maybury. In December 1990, Billboard magazine declared it the “#1 song in the world” at the first edition of the Billboard Music Awards.

Prince released a live version with Rosie Gaines in 1993 on his compilation The Hits/The B-Sides. The original 1984 version was eventually released on his posthumous Originals compilation in 2019.

the emperor’s new cloth

I knew since I was conscious that I liked girls, and that girl in the video of that great song I liked because she represented me, I felt like her, and I would have liked to have that look on the outside, although inside I was already like that.

Inside the Irishman drinking Murphys beers suddenly the mythical song sounded and thousands of sensations came to me at that moment… and I noticed how she looking at me in the eyes felt something similar… we embraced and danced…

The issue of cutting your hair that way is always complex… because at work you feel like they can tell you something for wearing it so short, in fact in a company they fired me once for cutting my hair like that… they told me that this style did not fit in their company.

With a tear on her cheek, Sinead told us that nothing compares to you. To you who are gone, to you who are not coming back, even though she wanted it like nothing else in her life even though she was aware that second halves have never been good. Nothing changes. If the first time love failed, the second time it won’t be green. The empathy that did not succeed at the beginning, does not succeed at the end.

It is said that this song was addressed to the artist’s ex-partner and manager, Fachtna O’Kelly, later Enya’s collaborator. The absolutely magical voice of the Irishwoman pours sadness into all the verses, endowing them with a realism as special as it is heartbreaking. Her version is overwhelming thanks to being endowed with a more nostalgic air provided by the musical arrangement.

SINEAD MARIE BERNADETTE O’CONNOR is from Dublin. Daughter of a traditional singer in Gaelic, during her youth she was part of several musical experiences in groups like Ton Ton Macoute to make the leap to sing solo by the hand of the experienced producer Fachtna O’Ceallaigh, without achieving too much success in her first steps although the reviews were good.

When listening to this song, we immediately remember this young bald woman looking at the camera and singing it with her beautiful and particular voice.    “Nothing Compares To You” is a single that achieved great fame thanks to the version made in 1990 by the Irish singer Sinead O’Connor. However, this beautiful song is not of her authorship, but stolen from PRINCE, as a product of a revenge.

Apart from having created a band for her, Prince also composed a romantic song “Nothing Compares To You” for her.    For it, he took great care in every detail, recording the instruments and also being in the chorus with his love .

It is said that Nothing Compares To You, the untouchable song, whose origin was a product of love, but whose success was a product of revenge, is the greatest of Prince’s hits, but without Prince.

Since you been gone I can do whatever I wantI can see whomever I chooseI can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurantBut nothingI said nothing can take away these blues’Cause nothing comparesNothing compares to you
