Ramdon things in my house hahaha part 1

As Christians, we know we shouldn’t let the things we want have so much influence over us. I often leave things my family no longer uses in the Goodwill donation garbage cans, walking away each time with the words “I shall want for nothing” echoing in my head. And yet, as soon as the donation center sign appears in my rearview mirror, I get back into the habit of buying things I don’t really need.

We can practice contentment and thankfulness, of course. If everything we have belongs to God, then it is necessary to take an honest inventory of what we have already been given. And if we already belong to God, then we don’t have to acquire more things to find our significance or security.

Our family stretches from Oregon to California, from Colorado to Missouri to Florida. I wish we lived closer. And when my older children are at summer camp and their rooms are silent, their absence catches my attention and makes me notice the artifacts that tell me who they are: their favorite ice cream, a certain song on the radio, the baseball cap crushed under the couch, or the muddy shoes by the back door.
